Weekly Podcast for 3/30/09

On this week's episode, we talk some college hoops and some Eagles...mostly Eagles though. We start off by congratulating Villanova on making it to the Final Four, and discuss whether or not this city will go nuts if they manage to win the whole thing. We then shift our focus to the Eagles, as Paul and Greg get in a heated debate over whether or not the Eagles have done enough to improve their chances of winning the Superbowl. Are we jumping the gun with the Eagles, or should we at least let them draft before making our judgment? There was supposed to be some Flyers talk, but since we ran a bit long, we decided to just add another Podcast for the Flyers, which you can hear tomorrow. That's right, you read that correctly...another podcast tomorrow!

One quick point to make. Most of the draft picks you mention here that were successful are on the defense. Do you think Reid was the one selecting those players or defensive genius, Jim Johnson? I will say it is Jim Johnson with over 100% probability. The failures are on the offense that you mention are on the offense and who are the coordinators for that? Reid and Marty. Terrible draft evaluators. They have had 3 successful guys McNabb, Westbrook and DeSean. But he is a terrible draft evaluator.

I have to comment about Andy Reid's draft record. Greg, dude you're crazy..Andy Reid 50/50? Are you serious? Steward Bradley is not a great pick and certainly neither is Gocong. Bradley is still proving his case. Gocong will be replaced this year. 01 - Fredex, Caver, 03- McDougle, LJ Smith, Billy McMullen, Jamal Green? -04 Matt Ware? Trey Darilek? 05 Matt McCoy, Ryan Moats, Sean Considine? 06 - Justice? Gocong? - 07 Kolb, Hunt

The sad part is a lot of these guys are Day 1 draft picks. Would we have won a superbowl if we drafted Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith or Chad Johnson instead of Fred EX? I don't know, but we passed on a lot of talent over the years. Greg disagreed with me on this, but I still think Reid and co. can't evaluate first day talent. More misses than hits.

There was an article on philly.com about a year ago that counted the number of starting players and pro bowlers drafted by each team. Over the course of Reid's tenure, the Eagles are in the top 5 in both categories.

Has he missed? Absolutely. So did the Patriots with Maroney and Watson. Or how bout that Chad Jackson? Or the vaunted David Thomas. Oh, you don't know who David Thomas is? Neither does any D coordinator in the league, cause he doesn't see the field. The list goes on with names from the Patriots early round drafts that are busts. It happens to every team. Get over it.

If you still doubt it, check how early the Patriots pick a safety this year. Brandon Merriweather was just a first round pick is all.

This was all I could find in regards to Big Red's draft history. Pretty fair analysis, Giving him a C overall, which would be about 50:50. If you could find that article I'd love to read it.
